The Scandinavian Heritage Foundation...

 

...is a non-profit organization focused on the five Nordic nations -- Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. SHF is the catalyst in the Northwest for preserving authentic traditions and culture while celebrating modern Scandinavian life, culture and business. It is the "go to" regional resource for all things Scandinavian.

SHF Smorgasbord - Eat & Support: Scandinavian Heritage Foundation Day at Chevy's

Invite all of your friends and family to dine at Chevy's Fresh Mex, bring this flyer and the restaurant will donate 25% of the proceeds to SHF.

SHF's Cook & Eat ~ Call for Reservations!

March 27 - Mike O’Bryant, SHF Executive Director, will make Scandinavian Appetizers, Gravlax and Cod Cakes
April 24 - Guest Chef Alberta Seierstad will prepare a Swedish Spring Feast with three courses including Wallenburgers (ground veal patties), creamed dill potatoes and rhubarb cream desert
May 22 - Tritia Tonn, pastry chef with Jory, the restaurant at the Allison Inn & Spa (Newberg) will be preparing sweet and savory Vannbakkels (cream puffs) and Skolebrod.

Cook & Eat is a deal at just $10 per person for SHF members and $15 for nonmembers. Come, learn how to cook and even do some hands-on cooking, then stay to eat what you cook. For more information and to make your reservation, call the SHF office at (503) 977-0275. Cook & Eat classes are the fourth Saturday of each month, 10 am to noon, at the Friendship Masonic Lodge, 5626 NE Alameda in Portland. 

 

 

SHF's Friday Night Lecture Series

The popular lectures are brought to you each month by the ASF Committee of the Scandinavian Heritage Foundation at Portland State University's Room 171 Cramer Hall. All lectures begin at 7:30 pm and are followed by a reception next door in the Finnish Room. Plan for these upcoming lectures: 


April 2, 2010 - Harry Martinson: Orphan, Sailor, Nobel Prize Winner: Dr. Lars Nordstrom
May 7, 2010 - Norwegian Resistance to Nazism: Dr. Leif Terdal

All lectures are free and open to the public.

 

SHF's Nordic Business After Hours @ Narcisse

Nordic Business After Hours is an informal gathering and open house at businesses around Portland that have a Nordic connection. All you have to do is stop in after work.

If you haven't yet visited Narcisse in downtown Portland, and admired their fabulous Noa Noa (popular Danish clothing brand) inventory, this is your chance to get acquainted.

Helsinki Academic Male Choir KYL

For you Finns its - Kauppakorkeakoulun Ylioppilaskunnan Laulajatis, the male choir of the Student Union of Helsinki School of Economics. The choir is on a West Coast tour and it is a rare opportunity to experience the exquisite beauty of 40 Finnish voices offering traditional male choir music, as well as modern and light music.
