SHF's Delicious Cheesecake Fundraiser with Sweet & Savory Food Company

Were you unable to attend our our fabulous Membership Celebration yesterday and missed out on the delicious cheesecakes? Or do you wish you had gotten one more plus a jar of marionberry sauce? You are in luck! We are still taking orders from their delicious selection this week (until Friday, September 16th). Just call the office at 503-977-0275. Eating sweets has never tasted so good! 40% of everything sold will go to SHF! SHF at Macy's Community Shopping Day

The Scandinavian Heritage Foundation (SHF) will be participating in this years Macy's Community Shopping Day fundraiser on Saturday, May 14 at the Macy's at Washington Square Mall in Tigard from 10:00am-8:00pm.

Participating non-profits will sell $10 tickets for this exclusive event, where ticket holders will be able to recieve 10-20% off purchases (no exclusions) and $10 off one item off of $25 or more.

20% off: Regular, sale and clearence women's, men's and kid's apparel, accessories, fin and fashion jewelry, frames, bed & bath items, houswares, luggage & china.

10% off: Regular, sale and clearence furniture, mattresses and area rugs. All electrics and electronics.

SHF will recieve all of the funds for ticket sales as a well as a portion of the sales on the event day! Also, SHF will have a table at the event as well as provide some Nordic entertainment for the event.

National Danish Performance Team 

National Danish Performance Team

The National Danish Performance Team (NDPT) will visit Portland from Sunday, November 21 through Sunday November 28, 2010.
Throughout the week, they will give workshops at various locations in Portland.
On Monday, November 22nd, at VESTAS Wind Technology – all 4 locations in Portland.
VESTAS Wind Technology is the global sponsor of the NDPT, and is partnering with SHF for the Portland visits.
MAC Members: The NDPT will give workshops at the Multnomah Athletic Club Monday, November 22nd and Tuesday November 23rd – check your Mac enews for details.

The full performance, open to the public, will be Sunday, 11/28/2010, at 2pm at Lakeridge High School, 1235 Overlook Drive, Lake Oswego, OR 97034-6998.

The Travels of Peter Kalm in America

Paula Ivaska Robbins will talk about her book The Travels of Peter Kalm in September. Ms. Robbins will lead you through the exciting travels and botanical work of the Finnish-Swedish naturalist Peter Kalm and his journey through colonial North America, 1748 - 1751. Kalm was a favorite of his mentor Carl Linne (Carolus Linnaeus) and collected nearly 400 dried herbarium specimens. After returning to Finland, he became vicar of Turku and is buried in the churchyard of St. Mary. Ms. Robbins is the author of six books, two on botanical history. She taught at the University of Helsinki in 1982 under a grant from the Finnish Academy.

If you've seen the movie The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, the first movie made from the incredibly popular Swedish mystery series by Stieg Larrson, you will want to see the followup movie The Girl Who Played with Fire, coming to Portland's Fox Theater. SHF is hosting a night at the movies and party to follow at House Spirits Distillery, makers of Krogstad Aquavit and Krogstad Gamal Aquavit. Food by Portland 's only Swedish restaurant, Broder (SE 25th & Clinton St .).

When: Friday, July 9, 2010 (time to be announced)
