Nominations open for Scandinavian of the Year 

 

All nominations are in, the winner will be revealed on June 26, 2010 at 1pm at the Portland Scandinaivan Midsummer Festival.

 

Scandinavian of the Year is one of the most prestigious awards given annually by the Scandinavian Heritage Foundation (SHF) to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to his/her organization and to the wider Scandinavian community in Oregon. The plaque is given in recognition of outstanding achievement and public service.

 

SHF invites any Scandinavian organization in Oregon or Southwest Washington to nominate a person who has made such a contribution. If you would like an application mailed to you please call SHF at (503) 977-0275 or email to shf@mindspring.com. This year's applications are due by June 1st.

 

The Scandinavian of the Year award will be announced at the Portland Scandinavian Midsummer Festival. SHF encourages the nominee to be present by 12:30 p.m. for the awards ceremony at the Portland Scandinavian Midsummer Festival, Saturday, June 26th, during the Maypole raising.

 

The Scandinavian Midsummer Festival is at the German American Cultural Center, SE 79th and Division in Portland. Entertainment and vendors are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. along with Småland (a special KidsZone). A Beergarden, Music, Dancing & Viking Re-enactors will be on hand all day. Folk dancing is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
