 Scandinavian of the Year

Scandinavian of the Year is one of the most prestigious awards given annually by the Scandinavian Heritage Foundation (SHF) to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to his/her organization and to the wider Scandinavian community in the Pacific Northwest. The plaque is given in recognition of outstanding achievement and public service, and is awarded every year at the Portland Scandinavian Midsummer Festival.

SHF is currently accepting nominations for the 2013-2014 year, and invites any Scandinavian organization in Oregon or Southwest Washington to nominate a person who has made an outstanding contribution to his or her community. Please download the nomination form below and email it to shf@mindspring.com by Friday May 23 or mail it to the SHF office at 8800 SW Oleson Road, Portland OR 97223. If you would like a paper copy of the application mailed to you please call SHF at (503) 977-0275 or email shf@mindspring.com

Congratulations to Clinton Maurice, 2012 - 2013 Scandinavian of the Year

Clinton Maurice, Swedish, nominated by Harmoni Lodge #472, Nobel Lodge No. 184 - Vasa Order of America, and Swedish Society Linnea

Clinton generously donates his time, talent and unsurpassed dedication to the League of Swedish Societies and the League’s success in local Nordic events, especially with the Portland Scandinavian Midsummer Festival and ScanFair. His long-standing leadership in the League of Swedish Societies is a model for all of us. Not actually of Nordic descent, Clint has embraced the Swedish culture since marrying into an active Swedish family.

Also nominated in 2013 were:

Ellen Hansen, Danish, nominated by the Danish Brotherhood and the Danish Sisterhood.

Dirk & Pirjo Schulbach, Finnish, nominated by the Finlandia Foundation.
