How you can help!

You can help the Scandinavian community build the Scandinavian American Cultural & Community Center in many ways.

Be a member and supporter of SHF

Volunteer to help with events, fundraisers or in the SHF office

        Donate your services or equipment

You can also make donations of money or property. Here are a few ideas:

You have a piece of property you are ready to sell, donate it to SHF.

Gift shares of stock to SHF.

Don’t forget about estate planning for future gifts.

Cash in matured bonds and make your donation.

You can determine a set amount each month for donations – set up automatic withdrawal for up to three years to reach the goal you set.

Don’t miss out on a naming opportunity - we can accept a three-year pledge for these opportunities.

Pool funds together with family members and honor a grandparent or other special person.

And remember that all gifts are tax deductible (of course you should always consult your financial advisor for tax purposes).  Call us to discuss what option will work best for you.

It is time to make the Scandinavian American Cultural & Community Center a reality.  Let’s all make a difference.  Talk to your extended family about what SHF does and how this new building will impact their lives for years to come.  Invite your friends, neighbors and colleagues to events.  Get involved and stay involved.  This is YOUR Cultural Center.  Each donation adds up and by next spring we will break ground.

Contact the SHF office at 503-977-0275 or through the online feedback form for more information.

IRS gives donations new temporary tax break

For a two-year period beginning January 1, 2006 a new tax law has been enacted that permits individuals who are 70½ to rollover up to $100,000 from an individual retirement account (IRA) directly to a qualifying charity without recognizing the dollars transferred.  The qualified charitable distribution must be from a traditional IRA, and the eligible individual may exclude the donation from his or her gross income.

Most contributions to public charities are considered qualified charitable contributions.  The Scandinavian Heritage Foundation is one such qualifying charity. Your timely donation to SHF will have enormous benefit in beginning construction on the Scandinavian American Cultural & Community Center in the Fall 2007.

In order to take the best advantage of this two-year tax benefit, donors will need to work with their professional advisors to determine the effect of these new rules on their specific tax situation.

If you are interested in contributing to SHF under this temporary program, please call (503) 977-0275.
