A Founders’ Club Program was instituted in 1992 to
raise funds to purchase property on Oleson Road in Portland for the purpose of building the Scandinavian American
Cultural & Community Center. A Viking ship medallion was
designed and produced by artist Joe Apodaca and a Founders’ Club
Medallion was presented to each Founder.
$250,000 was raised with gifts of land and money and the property was
purchased. There are ninety-seven Founders, both individual and
organizational, who have given a minimum of $1,000. The individual founders
are not listed on this page out of respect for their privacy. The Scandinavian organizations who
contributed to become Founders are:
ASF Foundation of Oregon and SW Washington

own precious assets to buy the land to build a Cultural Center.
