Founders’ Club

A Founders’ Club Program was instituted in 1992 to raise funds to purchase property on Oleson Road in Portland for the purpose of building the Scandinavian American Cultural & Community Center. A Viking ship medallion was designed and produced by artist Joe Apodaca and a Founders’ Club Medallion was presented to each Founder.  $250,000 was raised with gifts of land and money and the property was purchased. There are ninety-seven Founders, both individual and organizational, who have given a minimum of $1,000. The individual founders are not listed on this page out of respect for their privacy.  The Scandinavian organizations who contributed to become Founders are:

ASF Foundation of Oregon and SW Washington
Danish American Vintage Society
Danish Brotherhood, Lodge 167
Danish Sisterhood Lodge 81
Daughters of Norway, Frida Hansen Lodge 37
Finnish American Historical Society of the West

When the Scandinavian American Cultural & Community Center is built there will be a "Plaque of Honor" displayed in the lobby with a list of the Founders, who in the beginning, believed in the project and contributed their own precious assets to buy the land to build a Cultural Center.
